Top Ten Emmy Jewelry Moments of 2013

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 24 September 2013 0 komentar

All of the top Emmy jewelry trends for 2013 are tastefully covered in an earlier post by my colleague Mandy Tracy. Now it's time to get down and dirty. Here are my Top Ten Emmy Jewelry Moments of the night for your drooling (and dishing) pleasure.

Drumroll....

10. Maria Menounos? Less Is More. Just sayin'.

Don't let the jewelry wear YOU, sister. It's a stunning $2.5 million Colombian emerald and diamond piece (from Lorraine Schwartz no less), but the prom queen hair puts you in the Kathy Ireland 'Less Is More' Red Carpet Correspondent Hall of Fame.

Sorry, sister.

9. Mani-Cam Crack

The E! Red Carpet mani-cam not only shined a spotlight on nail polish, but supersized the A-lister's ring finger bling! And a new addiction was born.

Here's an even better look at Zooey Deschanel's gob-stopper-sized tourmaline ring by Chanel. Team Mani-Cam! Who's with me?

8. Padma Goes for the Gold

Padma Lakshmi gave the jewelry gawkers our first surprise (and notable trend) of the night: classic, sculptural, yellow gold jewelry. I loved her elegant swirl earrings and Wonder Woman-inspired cuff, both from Robert Lee Morris. Gorg!

7. Sarah Hyland Goes Green

I'm a sucker for an emerald statement. And while Christina Hendricks and Mayim Bialik scored some great green, Sarah Hyland really caught my attention with this head-to-toe look from Lorraine Schwartz, including  60-carat(!) Colombian emerald drop earrings.

Kermit, eat your heart out.

6. The Jewelry Credit Catastrophe

Live Tweeting the Emmy Red Carpet with the #emmyjewelry crowd is like joining a chorus of snarky sophisticates. We "jewelerati" love our bling. We love our champagne-infused red carpet drinking games. But we HATE HATE HATE it when jewelry credits get ignored.

While Ryan Snorecrest is our favorite target, this year, How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders took first prize for (gasp!) not only forgetting whose jewelry she was wearing (Irene Neuwirth!)....but owning up to it on live television in front of millions. No words.

PS - For those at home keeping score, our hashtag made the top trend list during the E! red carpet telecast. Join us next time!

5. Carrie Underwood

Ms. Underwood's go-to jewelry guru Jonathan Arndt didn't disappoint this year, scoring carats a kimbo for Country Barbie. And major props from the statement-necklace-starved jewelerati. That's $18 million worth of ice and over 180 carats all told for those of you playing at home.

4. Oh No You Didn't, Lena

It's not a jewelry moment. It's well...just a moment of sorrow I have to share. I love GIRLS. I love Lena Dunham. I love that she unabashedly wears ghastly jumpsuits, grandma underwear and an extra 25 pounds with nary an ounce of self-consciousness - both in real-life and on her show.

But I just can't abide this, sister. You can do better.

3. The Salamander Reveal

Canary Island has nothing on this Tweety Bird-inspired ensemble from Ana Farris. But just when I was about to unleash a Joan Rivers-inspired fashion rant, this yellow-bellied damsel in distress did a little red-carpet spin to reveal....

...this completely surprising and awesome 19th-century emerald and diamond Fred Leighton salamander brooch. I haven't been this shocked since Mariah Carey covered her cleavage. Nicely played.

2. My Claire Danes 'Cry Face'

She's a class act, that Claire. And as the belle of this particular Awards Show ball, I looked to her to knock it out of the park. But like other A-listers before her (Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie, I'm talking to you), she just doesn't get that we jewelry hounds don't want elegant understatements.

We don't want studs, or dainty drops or yet a another (yawn!) diamond bracelet - no matter how lovely.

We want a jewelry statement like Gwenyth Paltrow's Louis Vuitton bird earrings or Michelle William's deco Fred Leighton stunner.

Turning it up a notch doesn't mean you have to go gaudy (Maria Menounous, are you taking notes?). It just means you show up to occasion. This is the Emmys. Not a family wedding.

1. Sofia, Sofia, Sofia

Sofia Vergara's Vera Wang/Lorraine Schwartz combination does it again. This time, she brought $7 million of bling to the red carpet, including 100-carat unheated ruby, sapphire and emerald earrings, a 21-carat Asscher-cut diamond ring, and a 40-carat Colombian emerald and rose-cut diamond ring.

Big. Deep. Breath.

Liz Taylor is somewhere up there smiling over her martini shaker . If you're a man, you're almost crying with delight at the sight of this superstar. If you're a woman, you're...well...crying for other reasons.

Who made your 'to-die' and your 'do-over' Emmy fashion lists? Weigh in with your thoughts, jewelry hounds!

65th Annual Emmy Awards Jewelry Trends: Green, Gold and One Diamond Necklace

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired Sunday night, bringing us a red carpet swarming with new jewelry and fashion trends as well as some expected disappointments. Read on for the top five trends of the night.

Normally the morning after, we dish on the shoulder-sweeping earrings or Wonder Woman cuffs that have made frequent red carpet appearances over the years. As those trends either take a back seat or simply become the norm, we welcome some new and exciting trends to add to your jewelry box.

Cocktail Rings
Finally! Hollywood has put a ring on it! And in the form of big, chunky diamonds and gemstone cocktail rings. Primetime TV's finest rocked some cocktail rings that were large and in charge.

Zooey Deschanel matched an icy blue J. Mendel gown with an equally icy blue tourmaline ring by Chanel.

Modern Family's Sarah Hyland was head-to-toe in emerald, 2013's Color of the Year, pairing a green Caroline Herrera gown with Lorraine Schwartz green bling.

E! Red Carpet Hostess Guiliana Rancic rocked a $1 million diamond ring by Forevermark that would make even a Kardashian jealous!

Jessica Lange wore a black Escada gown accompanied with a Martin Katz cocktail ring. Kata Mara was sans any jewelry except for a large Irene Neuwirth ring that matched her J. Mendel gown. Other cocktail ring sitings included Sofia Vergara (obvi), Jane Krakowski, Christina Hendricks, Taylor Schilling

Green Goddesses

Whether it was the jewels or the gown, emerald was certainly the color of the night (Appropriate since the color gods at Pantone named it Color of the Year for 2013).

Standout looks that had us green with envy were Sarah Hyland (as mentioned before), Anna Chlumsky in Badgley Mischka, Lena Dunham in Prada, and Nancy O'dell.

Christina Hendricks looked ravishing, pairing a black down with emerald earrings and cocktail ring.

Sofia Vergara brought the bling once again with a Vera Wang gown paired with Multi color earrings and green ring by Lorraine Schwartz.

Anna Faris wore a cheerful yellow gown with a Fred Leighton green lizard brooch crawling up her back. Brooke Burke wore eye-catching jade earrings by Katerina Maxine.

Golden Girls
Yellow gold statement pieces continue to trend on the red carpet and are a perfect accessory for the fall.

Girls actress Allison Williams paired a blue Ralph Lauren gown with glowing Fred Leighton gold jewels.

Taylor Schilling rocked a white Thakoon paired with Jorge Adeler jewels, including a citrine and gold cocktail ring.

Nashville's Connie Britton paired a blue and gold Naeem Khan number with gold stacked bangles by Cathy Waterman.

Padma Lakshmi wore huge gold earrings and gold cuff by Robert Lee Morris that paired well with her Kaufman Franco gown.

Other golden jewelry moments include Cobie Smulders (who couldn't remember who designer her jewelry - YIKES), Jane Lynch and Merritt Wever.

Ladies in Red

While not a jewelry trend, we do pay respect to red carpet color trends that could inspired your own jewelry box collection.

Red frocks included Sofia Vergara, Morena Baccarin, Carla Gugino in Georges Chakra, Heidi Klum in Versace, Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang, Kelly Osbourne in Jenny Packham, Linda Cardinelli in Donna Karan Atelier and more.

Babes in Blue

Every shade of blue made an appearance on the red carpet, capping off a month of sapphire birthstone bliss.

Tina Fey left black at home and rocked a bright blue Narciso Rodriguez gown. Deschanel sisters, Emily and Zooey both wore light pastel gowns by Houghton and J. Mendel, respectively. Jane Krakowski, Jessica Pare, Allison Williams, Maria Menounos, and Guiliana Rancic also wore standout blue gowns.

And leave it to a country girl to be the only notable celeb rocking a diamond necklace. Carrie Underwood paired a purple Romona Keveza gown with Johnathon Arndt jewels. Guess we will have to wait for the Country Music Awards for our next diamond necklace moment. Oh well.

Swarovski's Shakespeare Sparkle

Posted by Unknown Kamis, 19 September 2013 0 komentar

The Swarovski juggernaut is no 'fortune's fool'. They're getting into the movie biz with Shakespeare's classic, Romeo and Juliet, no less. And who better to adapt The Bard's text to the big screen than Academy Award-winner Julian Fellowes, the witty Brit behind the Downton Abbey phenomenon.

I smell Oscar....

No stranger to collaborative screen projects, Swarovski’s heritage includes several decades of costume and set design across ballet, theatre, opera and film, according to their website

What this is, says Nadja Swarovski, is “a way of deepening involvement with established visionaries, but also supporting today’s emerging talent. The young stars have a chemistry that translates beautifully onto the big screen and will captivate audiences around the world.”

While it will be hard to beat the Claire Danes/Leonard DiCaprio Romeo and Juliet in my book, Swarovski is sweetening the deal by launching a (wait for it....) Romeo and Juliet jewelry line to complement the film.

Gold-plated Swarovski Crystal
Ring from Romeo and Juliet - $100
The collection includes a knot ring like the one Romeo gives Juliet in the movie, heart and star pendants, earrings shaped like daggers and rose gold bangles. Poison bottles and pantaloon pendants apparently didn't make the cut.
Gold-plated Swarovski Crystal Heart Pendant from Romeo and Juliet
Prices are all under $200 - perfect for English Lit majors and theater geeks with a bling fetish (myself included). The film will be released in the US on October 11th, and the jewelry will be available nationwide on September 30th.

Pendant with Magenta and White Swarovski Crystal on Jewelry.com  - $26.40

In the meantime, what light through yonder window breaks? It's Jewelry.com's own Swarovski Collection, with over 20 new styles just added. Enter code 40SWAROV for an Extra 40% Off, jewelry hounds. Which Swarov style is your favorite (I have a penchant for our little green frog pendant)? Would you wear Romeo and Juliet bling? Weigh in!
