Pink Diamond to Set Auction Record

A rare pink diamond weighing in at a whopping 59.60 carats could fetch a record $60 million or more according to Sotheby's. The auction house will put this baby on the block November 13th, and the jewelry world is buzzing with excitement.


The "Pink Star" (as the little darling likes to be called) is quite simply the most valuable diamond ever to be offered at auction. Yup. Ever.

"It is full of fire and light. If it sells it will be a record price for any gemstone so far at auction," David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's jewelry division in Europe and the Middle East, told Reuters in Geneva earlier this month.

The current record is held by the "Graff Pink", a 24.78 carat fancy intense pink diamond bought in 2010 by Laurence Graff for 45.44 million Swiss francs ($45.75 million then).
